Design Mondays - Mug that Says On/Off Depending on Temperature

December 3, 2007 · No Comments

01_on_off_mug.jpg

Simple, but clever…  Made using heat sensitive pigments, this mug changes from black to white and says on or off depending on whether it is full of hot coffee/chocolate.  Now, only if there was a mug that changed color gradually as the chocolate/coffee became cold…hmm.

Yes, you could get a regular lamp.  But, you could very well just make cut out an outline in a cardboard box to create a not so regular lamp.

Design Mondays - Backpack that makes chairs more comfortable

I wish there was something like this around when I was in elementary sitting on those hard cold wooden chairs.  When rested on the back of a chair, Mark Champkins’ backpack can fold out and the resulting pads can make sitting in a classroom a bit more comfortable.

Designed by Emmanuel Laffon de Mazieres, the Huit Sofa is an unexpected loveseat. The cascading effect results in differing levels of privacy. The figure 8 enables that privacy space to be negotiated and ultimately meet… The prelude to slipping on those fundies?

Design Mondays - Cassette Tape Belt

October 8, 2007 · No Comments

cassette_belt02.jpg

cassette_belt01.jpg

It’s plain to see…cassette tape are gradually achieving vintage status.  When I was 10 or so (yes, I was a precocious child), I actually used mix tapes quite a lot.  Kazaa and high-speed broadband internet were not there yet.  So, I would connect my stereo to the tv, watch a music channel, and whenever my favourite music video came on, I would hit the record button.  Then, I would mix up the tracks and make tapes for my friends.  File-sharing…old school :-)  Chandra Sweet has designed some neat cassette tape belt buckles (you can even choose the particular tape you want).
